The 2011 Proprietary Red Three Valleys is a blend of 65% Zinfandel, 20% Petite Sirah and the rest Carignan, Mataro, Alicante Bouchet and Grenache. The harvest took place between September and the end of October because of the cold growing conditions. Earthy, berry fruit and dusty, damp earth-like notes as well as a meager mouthfeel result in an uninspiring red wine that reflects the vintage difficulties. I am not sure this 2011 will elicit much favor among consumers. It is difficult to understand why it was bottled at all. Tel. (408) 867-3233

(65% zinfandel, 20% petite sirah, 9% carignane, 3% mataro, 2% alicante bouschet and 1% grenache): Opaque ruby. Black raspberry, anise, vanilla and musky herbs on the perfumed nose and in the mouth. Juicy and open-knit, offering lively red and dark berry flavors and a deeper note of black cardamom. Supple tannins give shape to a sweet, nicely persistent finish. I'd drink this approachable wine in its youth, for the fruit.
