Tasting notes
The 1999 Barolo Conca wraps around the palate with dark-fleshed fruit, smoke, tar, licorice and incense. Here the flavors are decidedly dark, but it is precisely that intensity that marries well with French oak. Conca, a south-facing site, yields wines of notable textural resonance and volume, which is exactly the case here. The 1999 should continue to drink well for another handful of years.

Dark ruby. The Conca is a highly attractive Barolo. Ample and expressive on the palate, if offers a heady combination of ripe dark fruit intermingled with sweet toasted oak aromas, with notable persistence on the palate and great overall balance. It should drink well to age 20.
The 1999 Barolo Vigna Conca, ample and ripe in aroma and with good concentration, depth, and definition, is forceful and vigorous on the close, but will need a bit of time to soften its tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel.
