More concentrated and masculine than the elegant and seamless 2014, the 2013 Condrieu la Doriane has unbelievable minerality as well as classic notes of caramelized peach, orange blossom and spice. Brought up all in new oak, there’s not a trace of wood to be found and it has full-bodied richness and a terrific finish. It's drinking nicely today, yet I suspect it will be one of the longer-lived examples of the cuvee. Still, I say drink!

(all new oak): Vivid yellow. High-pitched aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits, quinine, jasmine and chalky minerals, with a smoky quality emerging with aeration. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering Meyer lemon and poached pear flavors plus a hint of anise. Alluringly sweet and broad on the finish, which clings with excellent tenacity and lingering notes of honeysuckle and chamomile. The blend of power and vivacity here is quite deft.

Bottled in July 2014. Based on their holdings of 1 ha Côte Châtillon, 1 ha Colombier, 1 ha Château Volan, 1 ha Coteau de Chéry, and 1 ha Vernon – pas mal ! Style change towards something tighter. But it seems a bit light on the nose to me. Apricot richness and some velvet texture on the palate. Appetising but no savoury character. Seems a bit sweet. Falls away a little. (JR)

Blend of four vineyards, aged in 100% new oak. Rich with vanilla oak, and juicy, spicy fruit too. Has that modern, oaky sheen that doesn’t quite dominate the fruit, but is a defining feature of the palate. Massive volume and depth. Impressive in a completely unsubtle fashion. (RH)
