The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is performing well, with the natural density that this climat delivers counterbalancing this vintage's tendency to open-knit facility. Exhibiting aromas of pear, green almond, vanilla pod and white flowers, it's medium- to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a pure core of bright, lively fruit and enough structure and concentration to lend it presence.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has a rather simplistic bouquet with wild peach and apricot notes, quite showy and seductive, yet it is missing intellect and terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with a very phenolic opening. Lots of extract in evidence, yet just missing some precision and delineation towards the finish. A bit ponderous, perhaps? Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.
Lots of lemon butter and orange blossom-like fruit notes as well as toasted bread, green almond, and ginger nuances emerge from the 2018 Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes 1Er Cru, and this medium-bodied beauty has a lively, balanced style, high yet integrated acidity, and a great finish. I love its mix of ripe, pure fruit as well as more bracing, bright acidity. It will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and have a good decade of prime drinking. It's in the same ballpark as the 2015 and might be even longer lived.
