Looking at the 2010 Château Malartic-Lagravière, this powerhouse Pessac-Léognan reveals a deep ruby/plum hue as well as flat-out awesome aromatics of smoky red and black fruits, truffle, leather, and flowery incense. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, with a sexy, layered mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a gorgeous finish, it's still young and just in the very early stages of its prime drinking window. The blend is 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with the élevage in 85% new French oak. Drink 2025-2050.

Malartic delivers in both 2009 and 2010, and this is just totally class Pessac - charcoal, black tea, cinnamon, intense cassis puree, bilberry, cocoa bean, muscular tannins that are still fully in control.
The 2010 Malartic-Lagravière has a classic Left Bank bouquet with cedar and tobacco infused black fruit that unfurl nicely in the glass and gain intensity with every swirl. The palate is silky smooth on the entry, a satin textured Pessac-Léognan with well judged acidity and an intense black cherry and blueberry finish, a tang of sea salt on the aftertaste. Excellent. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Malartic Lagraviere has a nose of prunes, dried figs and leather with nuances of cherry cough syrup, sassafras and camphor. Full-bodied, the mid-palate is a little dried out while the tannins are pretty darn chewy, finishing a tad hard.
About the producer
One of few estates classified for both red and white wine production, Malartic-Lagravière was renovated entirely after the Bonnie family purchased it in 1996. They also expanded the property to its current 53 hectares.
