(40% vendange entier ): Bright dark red with ruby tones. High-toned aromas of blackberry and spices. Firmly structured, youthfully tight wine hints at blackberry and savory minerality but comes across as a bit rigid in the early going. The wine's serious, slightly drying tannins call for patience. I like this wine's cool energy but it's not for drinking anytime soon.

Very dark crimson. Rich and racy. Real savour here. Good balance of fruit and (imperceptible) oak. Lovely stuff! Though quite forward. (JR)

(from a clos next to the 12th century Château de Gevrey-Chambertin in the back of the village; vinified with 50% whole clusters): Deep red with ruby highlights. Sexy, slightly reduced aromas of redcurrant, leather and game. A step up in intensity and juiciness from the Fixin cuvées , combining a suave texture and a slightly rustic note of fresh blood. Berthaut think she might have gone a bit too far with her extraction and may bottle this wine later."My father is still not convinced about the use of stems," she said."He doesn't like anything green in the tank." But I like this rich but dry style. Finishes with firm tannins and very good length.

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chezeaux, which I tasted from three-year-old barrel, has a seductive bouquet -- the 40% whole bunch very discrete, lending real freshness and vitality. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of orange peel on the entry and a keen line of acidity; it is brisk and focused with a gentle uplift of citrus fruit on the finish. This is a sophisticated, just delicious Gevrey-Chambertin from winemaker Amélie Berthaut.
