The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has a more neutral bouquet that lacks the depth and fruit intensity of its peers. It is well defined but just missing some personality. The palate is well balanced but again neutral in style, missing some tension with a rather conservative slightly smudged finish that has lost the attractive nuttiness it displayed from barrel. This constitutes an earlier-drinking Chassagne. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru consists of three barrels this year, one-third new oak. It has a delineated bouquet with orchard fruit, grass clippings and a touch of lemon sherbet. The palate is well balanced though not a complex Chassagne, quite nutty and spicy towards the finish - not so distant from a Meursault in some ways. This is charming and shows promise.
