Score 94/100 · Drink 2004-2011, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

According to Gerard Boudot, this estate’s winemaker, the 2001 Montrachet completed its malo-lactic fermentation as he was preparing to harvest the 2002s. Aromatically, this bold, rich wine bursts with spices and creamed pears. Lush, powerful, and deep, it expands on the palate, displaying intense pear, toast, anise, and mineral flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2011. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802

(13.6% alcohol after chaptalization) Very ripe, slightly exotic aromas of pineapple, nut oils, spices and mint. Fat and thick but painfully closed. Finishes with a bitter edge today, as the wine is still working. Impossible to assess today.
