Full bottle 1,257 g. Smart screwcap. Certified biodynamic by respekt-BIODYN and the wine is certified organic. The oldest vines of the winery – 60 years – and Ott’s first official bottling of a single-vineyard wine. Southerly exposed terraces. Loess soil. Hand-picked and spontaneous ferment in steel tanks. TA 5.1 g/l, RS 1.5 g/l. Powerful, stony and stone-fruit aroma with a light herbal note. Intense and inviting. On the palate, just as powerful as you would expect from the aroma, deep, spicy and textured. There’s a sour-stony character that is where the freshness seems to come from as the acidity is moderate (though perhaps the pH is low?). Chewy and utterly satisfying with a long life ahead. Just shows the depth you can get with Grüner from a great site, and how it develops with a little bit of bottle age. Very persistent. (JH)

From 60-year-old vines picked on September 29, Ott's Feuersbrunner 2017 Grüner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 1ÖTW is super clear, precise and fresh on the nose where tropical and stone fruit aromas such as apricots, white peaches, nectarines, papayas and mangos are displayed. Full-bodied, lush and round with very fine acidity and good structure, this is a densely woven, fleshy, super elegant, persistent and very powerful Veltliner with an impressive but slightly massive finish. Super sexy but I tend to prefer the Spiegel from the 2017 vintage. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg and three weeks later in Vienna, both September 2018.
