50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Syrah. A fairly balanced year. During a very dry summer, heavy rains in mid August provided relief to the vines. Harvest between 15 September and 3 October. 30,000 bottles produced. Dark crimson. Light and fresh on the nose, but still a bit simple. Very sweet fruit but still unformed. Toasty and easy to like but such a baby! Sweet start and a corset of fine tannins. (JR)

The 2008 Saffredi, on the other hand, is a bit mystifying. It comes across as quite understated and lacking the necessary mid-palate juiciness to balance the 75% new oak barrels. Dark red fruit, spices and flowers emerge over time, but the wine's customary explosive, exuberant personality are nowhere to be found. Ultimately, the 2008 comes across as well-made but lacking excitement. The 2008 Saffredi is 49% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Syrah.
