Tasting notes
The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most complete wines in this tasting from the perspective of vintages at their peak right now. Silky and aromatic, with a mid-weight structure, the 1998 dazzles from the outset. The purity of the fruit is just remarkable. I especially admire its understated, delicate personality. Most importantly, it does not suffer all that much from the presence of wines of stronger years, quite an achievement in and of itself.

Another very pleasant and unexpected surprise, the 1998 Brunello di Montalcino impresses for its fruit density and primary flavors. The 1998 isn’t a blockbuster, but it stands out for its exceptional balance and pure class. Everything is in the right place.
With its delicately perfumed nose and soft, nuances of cherries, roses and minerals, the medium-bodied 1998 Brunello di Montalcino is a relatively accessible wine from this producer. It offers excellent length and balance, only the slightly coarse tannins keep the score from going higher. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. Importer: Palm Bay Imports, Boca Raton, FL; tel.
