The 2005 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is impressive. Still powerful and explosive, the 2005 needs a few more years in bottle for its bouquet to open up an the tannins to soften. Intense feral notes typical of this site give the wine much of its strong, assertive personality. Iron, blood, game, smoke, incense and herbs open up, but only with great reticence. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2005 is shaping up to be a terrific Barolo very much in a large-scaled, structured style that is the signature of this Castiglione Falletto site.

Compact and stony with the beginning of mulch. Great raspberry and cherry expression followed by a mouthful of tannins. This desperately needs food. (WS)
