Tasting notes
The 2003 Messorio has calmed down a bit now that it has been in bottle for a few years, but it remains a decidedly opulent, full-throttle wine loaded with blueberry and blackberry jam, chocolate, sweet spices and French oak. The tannins have begun to soften a touch, but the 2003 is still at least a few years away from offering its finest drinking. This is a fabulous effort considering a torrid vintage that was especially hard on Merlot.

The 2003 Messorio (100% Merlot) is simply stunning. Voluminous and expansive on the palate, it offers rich layers of jammy dark fruit, plums, cassis and toasted oak with extraordinary length and an utterly seductive personality. While it may not have the complexity or detail of the very finest vintages, does offer much pleasure in the very ripe style of the vintage.
