The 2023 Riesling Von der Fels is the second selection from the grands crus Kirchspiel, Hubacker, Morstein, Abtserde and quite a lot from Frauenberg, all calcareous sites. The nose is clear, pure, iodine and chalky. On the palate, this is a super precise, round and chalky, very finessed and elegant Riesling of great style with respect to knife-sharp precision, chalkiness and finesse. This is a superb Riesling at this price. 32,000 bottles were filled in late April this year. Tasted at the domaine in May.

The 2023 Riesling von der Fels is 45% Kirchspiel, 25% Absterde, 15% Hubacker and 15% Morstein. It is immediately radiant with aromatic, pale vine peach. The palate is juicy and light, with a lovely phenolic veil that lends grip and accentuates the firm, cooling freshness. A picture of energetic, joyful, swinging juiciness, it leaves a ton of lemon on the finish. (Bone-dry)
The dry counterpart to Limestone Kabinett, which was made in much smaller quantities this year. Today the vines are more than 30 years old – this is no longer the home of the younger vines, which is once was. TA 7.8 g/l Remarkably creamy citrus and ripe green fruits, even a touch of preserved green fig. The initial gentleness becomes more piercing with air. On the palate, bright, driving freshness clothed in sweet citrus (though the wine is dry). This has depth and richness, balanced by extreme freshness all the way through the core of the wine. A baby with great potential and full of joie de vivre. (The 2007 was still showing well in early 2024.) GV (JH)
