The 2003 Barolo Le Coste-Mosconi is another wine that has aged impeccably. Sweet balsamic notes dominate the bouquet, followed by spice, tobacco and new leather notes. Broad and warm on the palate, the 2003 is beautifully resonant and expressive throughout. Like the Mariondino, the Le Coste-Mosconi is entering its early maturity. The 2003 might remain at a plateau for some years, but my preference would be to drink the wine sooner rather than later as the aromatics are a bit forward. The tannins are likely to remain firm, though, so a little aeration is advisable.

Good full red. Distinctly roasted red fruits, marzipan and nuts on the nose, complicated by musky earth and game. Rich in texture but a bit tough and uninviting at present, with austere suggestions of camphor and tar. In a distinctly broad style, finishing with huge, slightly drying tannins. Will this evolve positively?

Parusso's 2003 Barolo Le Coste Mosconi is a new wine for the estate. this is a more fruit-driven style of Barolo, with superb intensity and a plump, generous style if less of the aromatic complexity of the Bussia. Still, this is a very prom ising debut, and it will be interesting to see what the 2004 brings.
