Tasting notes
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has another rather reduced bouquet, but there is plenty of red fruit here, touches of blood orange and hints of violet and after 20 minutes there is a palpable sense of exuberance. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy with fine grip and backbone. Fresh and delineated on the finish, this is a lovely Vosne-Romanée that should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

One of the most dramatic cuvées in the cellar is the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots, a wine that soars from the glass with a kaleidoscopic bouquet of cassis, raspberries and licorice mingled with notes of blood orange, peonies, exotic spices and smoked meats. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and complete, with powdery tannins, excellent concentration and lively acids, concluding with a nicely defined finish. This is a bold, powerful Reignots, but like the Petit Monts, it's also very nicely balanced.
No whole bunch. Very calcareous. Picked on day 2 of harvest, above La Romanée, steeper slope. Barrel sample. Deeply coloured to the rim. Ripe and dark fruited to match the colour, richly dark aromatics. A touch reductive thanks to lack of nitrogen in the soil, which they have adjusted . Dark, chewy, savoury and not as approachable as some. Amazing depth and matière , richness and density without fat. Ripe but so fresh. Needs time for the tannins and all that sweet dark fruit to meld. (JH)
