Very pale straw. Seductive and gloriously appealing on the nose immediately. Savoury and sinewy on the palate with some gunsmoke and power. Lovely evolution of the upright, rather masculine, savoury nose. A drier, tauter vintage. Very serious and already quite evolved aromatically. Pure, no compromises, a bit grainy in texture rather than the ultra-flattering, super-smooth 2000. Long. (JR)

The 1999 Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles has gorgeous, mouth-watering aromas of almonds and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, sexy, broad, and opulent, this wine is also well-delineated and refined. Flowers, crisp pears, and candied apples are found throughout its pure, fresh, and impressively long finish. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; (212) 490-9300.

Knockout complex nose combines musky, superripe fruits, smoked meat, nut skin and stony minerality. Large-scaled and thoroughly ripe, with compellingly floral and mineral inner-mouth character. A Chevalier of extraordinary volume and class; for a wine so rich, it remarkably light on its feet. Finishes extremely long and subtle, with lively peach and pear flavors and great verve. Certainly one of the top half-dozen wines of the vintage.
