Score 98/100 · Drink 2013-2030, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Apr 2013

Deep brick-colored, the 1994 Hill of Grace offers notes of stewed plums, dried berries and baking spices with nuances of aniseed, vanilla and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, it has great concentration and structure in the mouth, with crisp acid plus firm, grainy tannins, and is packed with layered, dried berry and spice flavors before finishing long with tons of remaining fruit. This wine still has many years to go. Drink it now to 2030+. Importer: Negociants USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993

Crimson. Very refined, complex, tight-knit nose. Dusty, five spice – not at all over the top. Refined. Very elegant. Yet it has lots still to give and is really very savoury. Maybe slightly dry on the end for now. (JR)

A powerhouse of a wine. Notably deep crimson. Still quite youthful-looking. Still reticent nose. Well melded, autumnal nose with some tannin still in evidence but very definitely entering middle age. Quite a dry finish but with food this could already give pleasure. (JR)

Deep ruby. Port-like aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, dark chocolate, cigar box, leather, minerals, cedar and herbs; became fresher and more perfumed with aeration. Powerful and penetrating; the thick, extremely concentrated fruit seems as deep as it is wide. From vines reportedly 130 years of age! Finishes with explosive fruit that coats the entire palate. Perhaps the longest Australian wine I've tasted this year. Can be tasted now, but really should be cellared for eight or ten years.
