Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2031, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, May 2011

The 2006 Richebourg bursts from the glass with generous, plush fruit. It is a surprisingly massive, concentrated wine, yet all of the elements come together nicely in the glass. The finish is deep and persistent. This is another hugely successful 2006 from Bernard Gros. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. Importer: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639

Good dark red. Smoky dark fruits, licorice, flint and a meaty nuance on the nose. Creamy and rich, with noteworthy volume and breadth but a slight heaviness to the black fruit and smoky oak flavors. Impressively sweet and full, but I don't find the definition or class of the best examples of this great grand cru. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins.

Deep red-ruby. Soil-inflected aromas of dark fruits, violet and licorice. The thickest, densest and most powerful of these 2006s, with sappy, perfumed flavors of black fruits, flowers and minerals. A distinct step up in ripeness and sweetness. Finishes sappy and long, with substantial but smooth tannins, sexy oak tones and considerable force.
