(from a 375-ml. bottle): Bright, full red. Sexy high tones and a balsamic quality to the aromas of currant, plum and leather. Then silky and plush in the mouth but with no shortage of power or energy to its redcurrant and nutty oak flavors. Seriously concentrated premier cru with finishing suggestions of leather and game. Winemaker François Millet expressed the opinion that the 2002s were expressive from the start and never really closed down. "They were also sweeter and warmer than the 2014s, and less subtle, with higher alcohol." (I subsequently tasted another bottle of this wine in New Zealand, this one in regular 750-ml. format, and it showed captivating strawberry and black raspberry fruit; wonderful silky density supported by a ripe edge of acidity; and fine-grained tannins and terrific finishing verve. My score and projected drinking plane is for this latter bottle, which seemed even younger than the one I tasted at the estate in November.)

(all from younger vines in Musigny; bottled in March of 2004) Good medium-deep red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, minerals and mint; showed superb precision as it opened in the glass. Wonderfully detailed and vibrant in the mouth, with sappy flavors of red fruits and minerals. It's hard to find pinot like this from anywhere but Burgundy Finishes with terrific persistence and palate-cleaning freshness.

Aromatically reserved and backward with elegant and very fresh and pure red and black pinot fruit aromas nuanced by subtle spice notes. The medium full flavors are ripe, sexy and supple yet deliver excellent precision, impeccable balance and an attractive mineral streak than gives both lift and firmness to the wonderfully long finish. This is a lively effort that is underpinned by dense and firm yet remarkably fine tannins. I quite like this as the grace and class of its origins are plain to see. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. Allen Meadows, Burghound Mar02,2007

Medium ruby colour – incredibly vibrant. A bit closed to begin with just a suggestion of the complexity that was about to unfold. With coaxing, dark cherry and damp earth aromas emerge followed by cinnamon, mocha, moss, truffles and cured meats. Violets are the last to come through. Crisp acidity with a medium level of fine tannins and great concentration. Medium+ body, very long finish. Lisa Perrotti-Brown, May 2010
