Score 95/100 · Drink 2016-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2017

The 2009 Brut Fleuron is round, voluptuous and racy. Explosive and spherical on the palate, the 2009 exudes richness, with plenty of the radiance of the year on display. Tropical inflections abound in a deep, boisterous Champagne that feels very ripe by Gimonnet standards. Still, there is so much to like, especially the way the wine maintains so much freshness given its intensity. Vineyard sources are 42.5% Cramant, 30% Chouilly, 18.5% Cuis and 9% Oger. Dosage is 4.5 grams/liter. Disgorged: October 2014.

Inviting toasty aroma. Rich, deep and full on the palate. Lemon cream on toast. The sample is on the warm side but there's still a fine balance here between that lees depth and the elegance of 100% Chardonnay. (JH)

One of the many highlights in this range, the 2009 Brut Fleuron is absolutely fabulous. The radiance and richness of the vintage adds an extra kick of textural richness and overall intensity that works beautifully here. A tropically-leaning expression of fruit marries with the classic Gimonnet emphasis on tension in a complete, deeply satisfying Champagne that hits all the right notes. This is a fabulous showing. Fruit sources are Chouilly, Cramant and Oger (all Grand Crus) and Cuis (a 1er Cru). Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 2016.

100% Chardonnay from three grands crus and one premier cru: 36% Chouilly, 39% Cramant, 8% Oger, and 17% from Cuis premier cru. Pale straw. Light nose. Just a little dull on the palate. A tad stodgy and astringent. (JR)
