Score 95/100 · Drink 2027-2037, Josh Raynolds, Dec 2022

Saturated, vaguely hazy garnet. Highly perfumed, mineral-tinged cherry and raspberry aromas are complicated by suggestions of smoky bacon, candied violet, olive and licorice. Supple and expansive in the mouth, offering fleshy red and blue fruit preserve, spicecake, violet pastille and salty olive flavors that become sweeter as the wine opens up. The floral note repeats emphatically on the strongly persistent finish, which shows outstanding definition and slowly building tannins. This wine is made from the Champet's oldest vines in La Viallière; made almost entirely with whole clusters and raised in once-used barriques . It's also a rare bird, but worth the chase.
