Mid straw. Lightweight nose. Meat and two veg on the nose. Round and the acidity is not too obvious. A little more refined in terms of texture and juiciness than the 2008. Racy and appealing. Good line. Still some chewiness. (JR)

Apricot, peach, and lemon in the nose of the Carillon 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrieres – from the southern fringe of that site, up against Boillot’s monopole Clos de la Mouchere – lead to a palate of sappy fruit generosity and sassy acidity, with saline, chalky, and subtly bitter peach kernel undertones. The combination of relative fullness and silken texture with sheer exuberance of fruit and strong mineral cast recommend this for immediate enjoyment, but I suspect it should keep well for at least a half-dozen more years. Carillon started picking the last of August, which he points out is exactly a week later than conventional calculations based on the early date of flowering would have led one to predict. He chaptalized most wines around a degree, to arrive at finished alcohol levels of 13-13.5% Carillon’s wines spend approximately a year in barrel – 15-20% new – with the lees stirred, followed by six months in tank. Captivating aromas of peach, crushed stone, minerals and flowers. The richest yet of these 2007s, offering musky, leesy flavors of soft citrus fruits and hazelnut. Starts fat, then turns minerally and firm on the back end, with fresh acids extending the finish. A very good example from the foot of the hillside.

Sweet and stinky. Some richness and focus but I'd love just a little more application. Chalky palate. Dry finish. Should come right eventually. (JR)
