Drink 0-0, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2006

(16.3% alcohol; just bottled) Deep medium ruby. Reticent, exotic nose hints at roasted plum, smoked meat, chocolate and coffee. Huge, superripe and porty, with a saline element that's currently dominating any fruit. Finishes with big, chewy, dusty tannins and a lingering note of melted chocolate. A massive zinfandel whose rather low-toned fruit has been muted by the bottling. Judgment deferred.

One of the most complex offerings here, the 2004 Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard, offers hints of raspberries, anise seed, and earth along with beautiful purity, a full-bodied, opulent style, and good underlying acidity as well as definition. It should drink well for 7-10 years. (Release date 11/06) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
