Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate sings of crème de cassis, baked plums, blueberry preserves and cigar box with hints of new leather, cinnamon stick and dusty earth plus a waft of bouquet garni. Full bodied, rich, decadently fruited and oh-so-spicy, it has beautifully ripe, velvety tannins and a wicked backbone of freshness, finishing very long.

Bright medium ruby. Pure but reticent aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis and licorice accented by violet and baking spices. Plush, suave and sweet; a lovely midweight with a very refined texture and captivating inner-mouth violet lift to its dark berry, spice and loam flavors. Finishes firmly tannic and very long, with a slight youthful aggressiveness that should be softened with more bottle age. I would expect this wine to merit an even higher score down the road, as it has the extract and fruit intensity to maintain its balance for many more years.
I was also able to taste through the 2009 and 1999 vintages during my visit. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with around 20% Cabernet Franc. It’s an ethereal, medium to full-bodied beauty that has plenty of cassis, green tobacco, and spring flower aromas and flavors. It’s drinking beautifully today and has an elegant, seamless style.

Dalla Valle Vineyards was founded in 1986 by Naoko and her late husband Gustav Dalla Valle, in Oakville. Initially they had wanted to create a luxury resort, but when they discovered the potential of the site, they changed tack and decided to make wine.
