Vineyard lies less than three miles from the Pacific Ocean. 100% whole-cluster fermentation in large neutral wood fermenters for 11 days before pressing into 20% new French oak barrels for 11 months. 624 cases produced. Smells of blackberry and black-cherry fruit with a hint of green herbs. Flavours of blackberry and green herb are wrapped in a muscular skein of tannins. Lovely saline notes linger in the finish along with hints of dried herbs and sawdust. Excellent acidity. Really very tasty. (AY)

The 2021 Syrah Estate has a medium ruby color and smoky, flinty tones that give way to cranberries, blackberries, juniper, resinous herbs and cured meats. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and very fresh with a core of savory fruit, generous meaty and flinty nuances and a long, savory finish.
