The 2014 Canon-la-Gaffelière has a well-defined nose, fresher than some of its peers, and is a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar and mint. This feels composed. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and fine tannins, clean and fresh with much better weight on the finish than its peers. This is one of the superior Saint-Émilion wines this year. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Garnet with brick rim. Subtle evolved aromas of undergrowth and cigar box and still some dark fruit. Fine, powdery tannins. Elegant, fresh and harmonious if perhaps a touch drying on the finish. (JH)

55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Franc, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Looks as deep-coloured as the 2015. Really very pleasingly knit on the nose. A little bit sweet-and-sour on the palate. Acidity is definitely making its presence felt. May take on compensating flesh in bottle… (JR)

The 2014 Canon-la-Gaffelière has a clean and pure bouquet with black cherry and raspberry coulis mixed with rose petal and tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, and gentle grip. This is nicely proportioned with a fresh, marine-like finish that beckons you back for another sip. Another typically refined and succinctly crafted Canon-la-Gaffelière. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
