Tasting notes
The 2006 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is fabulous. Deeply pitched aromatics are immediately alluring. Powerful and vibrant in the glass, the 2006 remains quite young, great news for readers who have it in their cellars. Blood orange, rose petal, mint and cinnamon confer a great deal of freshness. Superb.

Mid ruby and still quite youthful looking. Very, very young, with huge, slightly drying tannin framing elegant, mineral-driven fruit. Unapproachable right now. (WS)
Serralunga d’Alba. Almost impenetrable dark ruby with orange-tinged rim. At first stalky on the nose. Sweet raspberry and powerful but ripe, coating tannin. Quite big. (WS)
The 2006 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is young. Very young. Today the fruit remains quite primary and the aromatics have yet to develop. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine's structure and the sheer integrity of its fruit. I especially like the way the 2006 continues to open up as it sits in the glass. This is a hugely promising wine from the Massolino brothers, but readers will have to be patient.
