2009 Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

Bright medium red. Wild black cherry, black raspberry, coffee and wild herbs on the expressive nose. A step up from the Boudots in juiciness, offering very good definition to its black cherry, floral and licorice flavors. One senses the wine's alcohol on the back end but there's good lift and length here and no impression of heaviness. Has the freshness and spine to evolve in the cellar but this Clos-Vougeot is also unusually approachable in the early going.

Notably pale crimson. Rich and sweet and rosy nose. Just a bit dead on the palate unfortunately. Not really trying that hard. (JR)

Medium red. Superripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate liqueur and sweet oak lifted by a floral topnote. Fat and sweet, with a high-toned, liqueur-like quality to its chocolatey fruit. Finishes with rather aggressive oak tannins. I find this a bit heavy. Like a couple of Meunier's other low-acid cuvees, such as Nuits Boudots and Vosne Beaux-Monts, this finished its malo early and was racked last March. These wines struck me as distinctly New World in style.
