Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2033, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate, Oct 2025

A blend of 68% Grenache, 24% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre, the 2023 L'ange Rouge issues from a range of Santa Barbara County sites, including Alta Mesa, Nolan and Ballard Ranch. It fermented in concrete and matured in a mix of stainless steel and neutral puncheons. An earth-driven, savory boquet of smoked meats, olive tapenade and a core of red and black fruits is followed by a seamless and svelte palate. The finish is sturdy, taut and focused, lingering with charred, roasted flavors framed by muscular tannins. This is a beautiful overview of the earthy yet streamlined style at McPrice Myers, and it should drink very well through its first decade.
