Score 90/100 · Drink 2000-2015, Robert Parker, Aug 2000
The dark ruby/purple-hued 1997 La Gioia (100% Sangiovese) offers intriguing smoky, toasty aromas mixed with jammy red and black fruits. Plump and fat, with low acidity, and exceptional richness and symmetry, this large wine offers plenty of muscle, glycerin, and concentration. Approachable already, it promises to evolve and improve for 4-5 years, and last for 12-15 years. Importer: A Christopher Cannan Selection, Europvin USA, Watertown, MA; tel. (617) 924-7620

Dark ruby with garnet highlights. Sweet aromas of very ripe red fruits, vanilla and cinnamon. Full and rich on the palate; round and sensual, with lower acidity than past vintages of this wine. Plenty of extract. Impeccable winemaking.
