Score 88.5/100 · Drink 0-0, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Component #1, young vines planted on pure granite and made entirely in stainless steel: Complex, bright aromas of black fruits, violet and olive, with a hint of dill. Lively and firm but not especially fleshy. A rather penetrating sample, with good length. Component #2, from more typical rocky soil, tasted from barrel and not yet racked: Medium ruby. Less aromatic on the nose. Then denser in the mouth, but with excellent vivacity. A note of black pepper lifts the dark fruit component. Finishes with good length. Should make a very good blend.

Thierry Allemand

Allemand’s wines set the benchmark for Cornas: expressive Syrahs crafted with uncompromising traditional methods and released in tiny quantities. From the 1980s, he revived abandoned vineyards on Cornas’s steep granite slopes, building his domaine without inherited land or financial support.
