Bright medium red. Cherry, minerals and smoke on the classic Gevrey nose. Densely packed, sappy and energetic, with its sweetness leavened by sound acidity. Finishes dense, sweet and very long. This wonderfully vibrant Gevrey leaves the taste buds quivering. A great vintage for this bottling, but lay it down for a decade.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is flat-out beautiful. All of the elements are in the right place. A striking bouquet melds into endless waves of fruit, all supported by the finest and silkiest of tannins. It's all there in the glass. In my view, the Cazetiers is the signature wine for the domaine. No one does Cazetiers better than Christian Serafin.

Christian Serafin doesn’t say a lot, at least not verbally. The wines speak for him eloquently though. Serafin has turned out a lovely set of 2010s. I give the edge to 2009 for consistency across his range, but the top wines here are undoubtedly exciting. They will thrill readers who appreciated transparent, weightless Burgundies. Yields were down 20-30% on average, which is on the lower end of the spectrum within the context of the year. Serafin planned to bottle his 2010s between February and April 2012. Good dark red. Complex aromas and flavors of raspberry, smoke and coffee. Large-scaled, rich and strong, with an element of peppery acidity giving verve to the middle palate. This young, full-bodied wine is most impressive today on the very long, strong finish, which features substantial suave tannins and terrific savory grip.
