The 1999 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is utterly impeccable from start to finish. Vivid, layered and totally beautiful, the 1999 caresses the palate with tons of nuance and pure pedigree. Sweet red fruit, flowers mint and dried herbs are just some of the many notes that blossom in the glass. Once a brute, the 1999 has developed into a sophisticated, refined Barolo of the highest level. Sweet, floral notes add further lift on the expressive, perfumed finish. The 1999 has more than enough depth to drink well for many, many years. Sweet roses, mint and licorice add the final nuances in a memorable Barolo from Scavino.

Sweet and dark and evolved and rather smooth and tame by now. Luscious in fact – tastes like a pretty ripe vintage. Really nice now – and very opulent, and sweet and rewarding, perhaps slightly sweeter than the purest example. (JR)

The 1999 is a big, strapping Bric del Fiasc, boasting a lot of structure and a potent, brooding personality. Though it offers plenty of fruit and the rich style that is the hallmark of this wine, it also comes across as somewhat heavy and lacking the elegance of the finest vintages.

Dark ruby. The 1999 Bric del Fiasc is a big, muscular effort, packed with super-ripe dark fruit, licorice and tar notes in a potent style that comes off as somewhat ponderous and heavy-handed. Today it lacks the elegance of this producer's best wines. It should drink well until at least age 25.
