Christophe Roumier’s 2009 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru is a typical wine for the year. Rich, radiant and luscious, it offers up gorgeous fruit to play off its undeniable Morey structure. The purity of the fruit and textures is just stunning. At thirteen years of age, the 2009 remains a very young, vibrant wine full of life. It will reward readers with another 20 years or so of exceptional drinking, maybe more. Tasting it reminds me of how much things have changed in Burgundy over the last few decades. I remember getting a box of samples of Roumier’s 2009s when this vintage was released! That doesn’t exactly happen these days. This is an exceptionally fine bottle caught at the right moment.

The 2009 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de La Bussière is a delicious wine at this level. Dark red berries, menthol, spices and licorice wrap around the palate in this surprisingly large-scaled, generous Clos de la Bussière. My sense is that the 2009 will enjoyed a long drinking window.

The 2009 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere is a delicious wine at this level. Dark red berries, menthol, spices and licorice wrap around the palate in this surprisingly large-scaled, generous Clos de la Bussiere. My sense is that the 2009 will enjoyed a long drinking window. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. It is a fascinating to revisit Christophe Roumier’s 2009s from bottle. The lower-end wines are marked by the year to a significantly greater extent than the top wines. Importer: Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel. (212) 419-1400

Medium red. Superripe aromas of cherry liqueur, chocolate and wild herbs. Less sweet in the mouth than the nose would suggest, with a medicinal reserve that's not a bad sign for a 2009. A bit chunky today but the long, ripely tannic finish suggests that this will reward several years of patience.
