Tasting notes
Grapes for the 2021 Chardonnay Freya Hermann Cuvée were harvested on September 16. The wine was matured for 23 months in 100% new Billon oak, which is already exceptionally well integrated. It has an incredible floral perfume and a pure white-apricot core. The palate balances expansive, satiny fruit with taut acidity, and it has a very long, detailed finish. Its concentration and structure point to a long life in the cellar. Only 82 cases were made.

The 2021 Chardonnay Freya Herman Cuvée is nuanced in the glass, with dusty florals, young peach and nectarine. Built on purity with medium-weight textures, crisp orchard fruits are complemented by pretty inner florals and hints of hazelnut. The Freya Herman Cuvée finishes long and staining with hints of whole butter and almond custard contrasting lemon zest. While some cellaring is advised to bring forward more aromatic complexity, the 2021 is engaging and full of lively personality. This spends twenty-three months in 100% new Billon French oak barrels.
