2005 Domaine des Comtés Lafon Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru

I had not tasted the 2005 Meursault 1er Cru les Genevrières from Dominique Lafon for several years, but it is just as impressive as I remember. Here we have a seductive nose: hints of lemon thyme and sherbet at first, giving way to more tertiary notes, echoing the "hawthorn" remark that I made last time. The palate is clearly very well balanced and harmonious, with a smear of vanilla originating from the oak. There is impressive weight and mineralité developing on the finish that displays great length. It does not quite possess the profundity of the Meursault Caillerets from Jean-François Coche served alongside, but that should not detract from this marvellous Meursault.

Exotically and seductively spiced ripe orchard fruit aromas that very much resemble those of the '06 with the peach and apricot notes introducing rich, sweet and full-bodied flavors that offer excellent intensity and impressive depth on the vibrant and penetrating finish. This is both stylish and classy with a lovely texture on the finish.

Complex nose melds lime, menthol, flowers, wet stone and oatmeal. Juicy, perfumed and precise on the palate, with terrific limey cut; quite tight today following the bottling a month ago. Finishes very long and firm, with refreshing acidity. Built for aging. The yield here was just under 35 hectoliters per hectare.
