This is actually their top wine, Janus, but the 1996 was bottled in magnum for the first time in 2000 – hence the name Millenium. It's the only cuvée in French oak. Vines at 800-1,000 m. Destemmed and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel. Aged for up to 36 months in French oak. Tasted in magnum. Very different. Dark ruby with an orange edge. Very sweet and lifted and lots of tannin. Strong and grainy. A bit dry on the finish. Clean. (JR)

Opaque bright ruby. Knockout superripe nose combines currant and black cherry liqueur, melted caramel, peat and smoky French oak; almost a hint of raisin. Thick, sweet and extremely ripe, with the raisiny note repeating. Velvety, seamless and very deep. This huge, rather exotic Pesquera will be a crowdpleaser, but I prefer the more classic "regular" reserva.
