Score 89/100 · Drink 2025-2043, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Mar 2022

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, licorice and spices, the 2018 Bourgogne Rouge is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered core of fruit framed by rich, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish. Less supple and immediate than its 2019 counterpart, it will really sing with five or more years of bottle aging.

The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge has a light blackberry and briar-scented bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Quite a masculine and sturdy generic red with an attractive saline finish. Give it 12 months in bottle, since it has not quite lost that angularity I observed from barrel.

The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge comes from 65-year-old vines in the lieu-dit of La Lutenière (opposite the winery of Arnoux-Lachaux), which was cropped at just 25hl/ha. It has a lovely, very pure bouquet of brambly red fruit and briary aromas. The medium-bodied palate presents slightly coarse tannins on the entry. A little angular at the moment, but with a bright finish.
