This is slightly darker, with more intensity on the nose though a similar profile to the Barolo: ripe and savoury. And more intensity, purity and lift in the mouth. A great deal here but this is not at all forced. A gently tannic finish. Really very good. Pure.

The 2011 Barolo Acclivi reveals a very pretty garnet color with bright fruit tones that span from wild cherry to crème de cassis. The wine is delicately polished in the mouth with classic lines throughout. This wine boasts broad shoulders and a firm, muscular build. It is determined and powerful but graceful at the same time.

Verduno. Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Soft, strawberry on the nose and full and ripe on the palate. Intense strawberry aromas and firm tannins on the finish. A little overwhelming almost, but has the stuff for ageing. Incredibly long. (WS)

What a joy it is to taste Burlotto's 2011 Barolo Acclivi. The Acclivi occupies a very attractive middle ground in the Burlotto range. It is made from a handful of parcels, but is more structured and overtly tannic than the straight Barolo, but obviously does not convey the signature of a specific piece of dirt, as the Cannubi and Monvigliero do. A wine of contrasts, Acclivi is dark yet translucent, tannic and weightless. In other words, it is a wine that captures the full spectrum of complexity Nebbiolo is capable of. The warmth of the vintage has given the Accilvi a little more ripeness and volume than is typically the case, but all the elements are deftly balanced.
