The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a lifted, perfumed, slightly exotic bouquet with orange blossom filtering through the red fruit. Lovely transparency here, though I would not describe it as "complex". The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, structured and lightly spiced, a dash of black pepper and sage. Just a little dryness towards the baked red cherry and raspberry coulis-tinged finish, otherwise this is a seriously fine, quite aristocratic Richebourg. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The markedly ripe yet elegant, complex and airy aromas of both red and dark currant that are spiked with a variety of floral, spice and wet stone traces. The palate impression of the tautly muscular and much more mineral-inflected broad-shouldered flavors is more refined if less seductive while delivering just a bit more persistence on the balanced finale. This is presently on the slightly toasty side and it too needs to add depth, but the underlying material appears to be more than up to the job and overall, this seems very promising.

More muscular and meaty than the Échezeaux. Darker fruits, sweet cherry depth. Redolent and yet controlled in fruit. Fleshy cherries and plums, a slight hint of integrated toast and nutmeg from oak. Despite the power the sensation is ethereal and lifted. Very fine. (TP)
