Once again, the 2005 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Franco-Michet is superb. Powerful, dense and explosive, the 2005 is just beginning to show the first notes of tertiary aromatic complexity. Ample and deep, with tannins to burn, the 2005 is likely to provide those lucky enough to own it many years of superb drinking. This is a great showing from one of the finer wines in a vintage that continues to grow.

Cappellano's 2005 Barolo Piè Franco - Michet is a big step up from the Rupestris in 2005. Lifted and precise, the Franco is also quite a bit darker and more powerful than it often is. Firm tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry fruit. In recent years, the Franco has often been accessible young (2007, 2008 and 2009 come to mind), but the 2005 is a wine for the cellar. This is a gorgeous Barolo in the making.
