Tasting notes
The 2001 Syrah Walker Vine Hill-Short Rows is a prodigious example. This Syrah exhibits great intensity along with tremendous peppery, blackberry fruit intermixed with creosote and acacia flower notes. Full-bodied and viscous, it is a killer Syrah to drink over the next 7-8 years. Fax (707) 591-0784

(from Goldridge soils; from south-facing vines in a cool spot) Saturated dark ruby. Aromas of blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate. Fat, sweet and thick; large-scaled and mouthfilling wine. Boasts plenty of black fruits but comes across as somewhat chunky and alcoholic. Fans of this style will no doubt rate this a bit higher than I did. Mahle fermented with 50% whole clusters; following a four-day cold soak, the wine fermented in 24 hours.
