This is the current vintage on the market now. The 2008 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio is a polished and expressive creation that has inched slowly along its aging trajectory in the many years that have passed since the harvest. The wine has one foot in the realm of primary aromas with dark fruit and dried plum. The other foot has already moved toward tertiary tones of campfire ash, licorice, road paving and perfumed white truffle. The effects of oxygen have started their magic on this well-built and solid wine. The long finish ends with dryness and austerity.

The 2008 Barolo Riserva Cà d'Morissio is precise, lifted and intensely aromatic, with all the grace and inner perfume that is often found in this compelling Barolo vintage. Sweet dark cherries, lavender, dried herbs and licorice are all laced together in a delicate Barolo long on nuance and subtlety. The 2008 Monprivato took a few years to blossom. I imagine that will be the case here as well, as the Cà d'Morissio is very closed today.

This is shaping up to be another gem from Mauro Mascarello.
The 2008 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio possesses stunning depth and presence. An exciting mélange of crushed flowers, licorice, raspberries and mint takes shape in the glass as this refined, articulate Barolo shows off its pedigree. Today the 2008 impresses for its sheer finesse and the extent to which it captures the personality of the vintage. As of April 2012 Mascarello planned to bottle his Cà d'Morissio separately, but that can always change.
