Tasting notes
Made from Merlot, the 2019 Casalferro is a deep reflective magenta color and is perfumed with aromas of fresh violets, blueberry, red plum, cedar, and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it’s plush with ripe tannins and a savory earth tone on the palate and has structure and an expanding feel. It has a good finish and is prime for drinking over the next 5-7 years.

The 2019 Casalferro (Merlot) is terrific. Ripe dark cherry/plum fruit, licorice, spice, new leather, menthol and mocha are nicely dialed up in a generous, plush Merlot that offers plenty of Chianti Classico vibrancy.
100% Merlot from three different vineyards all at more than 400 m elevation but with different soils and exposures. Aged in barriques and tonneaux (30% new) for 21 months. Released quite a while after bottling in December 2021 because it seemed to benefit from bottle age. Chocolate notes but some of the trademark Ricasoli freshness too. Quite hedonistic. (JR)
The Barone Ricasoli 2019 Casalferro flaunts its potential in a classic vintage. Made with all Merlot, the wine's DNA is shaped by the variety, but territory also plays a huge role in this presentation. You know you are drinking a wine from Tuscany thanks to a delicate flutter of aromas that includes wild cherry, purple fruits, violet and spice. This wine lends an Italian personality to a French grape.
