Tasting notes
The 2021 Pinot Noir Flax Estate Vineyard offers plenty of up-front intensity. Next to the other wines in this range, the Flax is a bit rough around the edges, especially in its tannin profile. In any other range, the Flax might be the top wine, but here, well, the competition is pretty tough. Then again, this was just bottled, so we will see. Red-toned fruit, iron, white pepper and dried flowers add aromatic intrigue.

A dark but transparent ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Flax Estate Vineyard is ripe with sanguine and iron-rich aromas of spicy sassafras and pure cherry liqueur. Full-bodied but elegant, with ripe tannins, freshness, and balanced fruit as well as a note of toasted tea leaves, it’s a well-framed wine. Drink 2025-2040.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Flax Estate is savory and deep, with addicting layers of ripe fruit, spice and bitters. Its aromas unfold slowly from raspberry, strawberry and tangerine peel to licorice, nori and umami undertones. The medium-bodied palate is velvety and mouthwatering with a deep well of perfumed fruit that floods the mouth, and it has a tremendously long, kaleidoscopic finish with streaks of earth and spice. The Flax Estate offers a bit of a magical characteristic of the best 2021 Pinot Noirs from Sonoma County, and it will be long-lived in bottle.
