The 2013 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard comes across as a bit more closed than the McCrea. It will be interesting to see if the Durrell gains a little more flesh over time. Today, it is one of the leaner wines in the range, although there is plenty of energy and brightness in the citrus and floral notes that are front and center. Of all the 2013 Chardonnays, the Durell is the least expressive relative to how it showed from tank prior to bottling.
The 2013 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard is marked by a real sense of phenolic weight and overall structure. Apricot pit, earthiness, orange peel and almond blossom through to the creamy finish. In this range, the Durrell is decidedly bold and virile in style.
