The 2010 Zinfandel Grist Vineyard wraps around the palate with black cherries, menthol, tar and licorice. Rich, sweet and powerful, the Grist is built on a serious core of both fruit and structure. There is a level of mid-palate pliancy and generosity that allows the Grist to sing. This parcel is planted on St. George rootstock, which isn't seen too often these days.

(15.8% alcohol; from a west-facing slope at 900 feet): Bright medium ruby. Enticing aromas of blackberry, pepper and spices; much less evidence here of the heat spikes of late August and early September owing to the elevation of the vineyard. Smooth, sexy and sweet, with lovely energy and peppery acidity framing the intense flavors of crushed dark berries and dark chocolate. At once expansive and acid-driven, finishing with substantial chewy, ripe tannins that are not at all tough. Very high-pitched zinfandel, and rather atypical for Dry Creek Valley. Winemaker Ehren Jordan describes this site as the Hudson Vineyard of the Dry Creek Valley.
