Score 17/20 · Drink 1989-2020, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2016

76.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.8% Cabernet Franc, 9.3% Merlot. A slight yield reduction increased concentration of the grapes. The season included August rains. Fermented in stainless steel at 88 °F (31 ºC) for four days then kept on skins for 19 days. Aged after malolactic in all-new French oak barrels for 24 months. Aromatics of black licorice (like the American candy Good & Plenty). The palate carries notes of cedar and eucalyptus with touches of dark chocolate and a sour cherry finish. Firm, persistent tannin is coupled with persistent gravelly minerality and elevated acidity for a long finish. (ECB)

Last Tasted 2/93 Exhibiting virtually no bouquet, this hard, tough-textured, lean, empty wine appears suspended in time - or, to put it in a different perspective, frozen in place. It possesses neither fruit nor character.
