100% Pinot Noir from a 0.33-ha east-facing vineyard parcel at mid slope, just above the village of Premeaux-Prissey. The vines were planted in 1987/88 with a density of 10,000 vines/ha on very pebbly soils and yielded 44 hl/ha in 2009. Grapes were destemmed then cold macerated for five days at 12–15 °C before a three-week fermentation with regular cap-punching and pumpovers. Aged for 17 months in French oak barrels of which 50% were new. Winemaker Pierre Vincent. Very pale ruby. Some warm, rich evolution. Lovely sweet fruit on the front palate. Real wine with great richness and integrity. This would be a real treat on any table. Long and satisfying. (JR)

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Corvées Pagets shows the more delicate side of Nuits in its perfumed, silky fruit. Crushed flowers, sweet herbs and mint add layers of nuance while the silky tannins caress the palate on the finish. The Corvées Paget was made with 40% whole bunches. Tasted from tank.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Corvees Pagets shows the more delicate side of Nuits in its perfumed, silky fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Biodynamic farming and non-interventionalist winemaking are at the heart of the approach at Domaine de la Vougeraie. The 2009s saw roughly a 25 days of maceration (including a week of cold soak) with one punch down a day. Once in barrel racking was kept to a bare minimum. A number of wines were bottled in late 2010 and early 2011. I tasted these wines with winemaker Pierre Vincent in March 2011. Importer: Boisset Family Estates, St. Helena, CA; tel. (800) 878-1123
